Akumal Bay, October 5, 2015

Today we went snorkling with turtles, fish and coral.

Did you know that coral is not a plant, it is tiny fragile animals.
Coral is related to jellyfish and anemones. I don't know what anemones are. You aren't allowed to touch the coral or you will wreak it.

The Mesoamerican reef is where we are. It is the second biggest reef in the world.
It is important to take care of the reef because 4000 types of fish live there and 800 types of coral live there. The reef also protects the beach from storms.

Doing my homework on the beach.

Akumal Bay, October 4, 2015

The water is very rocky, maybe that is why the turtles like to come here.

When we were snorkling Kevin saw a lot of birds circling, we got out of the water and ran down the beach to see if a nest was hatching. We got to see two turtles go out to sea.
Its so small!

Aukumal Bay, October 3, 2015

We are finally here! This is the view from our room.

We went for a walk on the beach, we saw coconut trees, aguanas and hermit crabs. There are a lot of turtle nests on the beach, over 400 of them!

All the sticks in the ground are nests.

I couldn't reach the coconuts, I'm too short.

Time to head back, it was a long day.
